Nyamira County government has identified five learning institutions to serve as isolation centres as the Corovavirus disease continues to scare Kenyans.
The schools will supplement health facilities identified for the same purpose in the county.
The identification of the five schools is in line with the directive by the Ministry of Health to all counties to step up their readiness should the scourge spread to their regions.
The ministry had identified all Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) centres across the country to be used as quarantine grounds in the event that the numbers of corona virus patients got reported in the Counties.
The schools identified are; Nyambaria Boys in Manga Sub County, Sironga Girls’ High in Nyamira South Sub County, Menyenya SDA School in Borabu, Kebabe Girls’ School in Nyamira North and Riyabe Secondary School in Masaba North sub county.
Governor John Nyagarama assured residents that his government was committed to fight the disease.
“In our county so far, we have no confirmed case of Corona virus. But that does not make us exceptional. That is why every necessary step has been taken to prevent any case and of course get ready for any unfortunate eventuality,” said Nyagarama.
He noted that the County had received over one hundred covid-19 scare alerts and which the health department had taken up and investigated.
So far, more than a half of them have turned negative as the rest are still under mandatory quarantine.
“Our teams have so far responded to 122 alerts. Most of them have been investigated and turned negative in samples taken to KEMRI in Kisumu prompting the release of over 60 patients of self-quarantined residents.
Other 28 individuals are under 14 days mandatory self-quarantine to know their status,” stated Nyagarama.
