Women receive farm inputs

Two thousand women in Kesses Constituency, Uasin Gishu County have received fertilizers and certified seeds to boost food security.

Area Member of Parliament (MP) Swarup Mishra is behind the initiative.

Mishra said the seeds and fertilizers are meant to cushion farmers in this harsh economic times when the country is battling the Coronavirus pandemic.

Mishra added that it will take a long time for the economy to recover after the Covid-19 surge.

He was accompanied by Gilbert Tenant who represents Cheptiret/Kipchamo in the County Assembly.

Tenai hailed the MP for the initiative.

“I welcome the initiative. It will make the women and their families empowered,” said Tenai.

Some of the farmers in the area have been affected by floods which swept their crops.

The beneficiaries appreciated the legislator for the aid.

Joan Kemei, a farmer, said the legislator has been in the forefront supporting his constituents during this time of Covid-19.

Apart from the farm inputs, the MP had donated food worth 30 million to the 12,000 families.

“Mishra is God sent. He recently donated foodstuffs to us. Today, he has donated seeds and fertilizers. We are greatful,” said Kemei.

“This support will help us get food for consumption and we sell the surplus in the market,” added Sarah Kosgey.
