A section of Uasin Gishu residents have now welcomed a move to oust Senate Deputy speaker Prof. Kithure Kindiki.
They hope he will be replaced by Uasin Gishu Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar as rumour mills indicate.
The motion to oust Prof Kindiki was moved by Senate majority whip Irungu Kang’ata on Tuesday.
It is being debated in special sitting in the Senate today afternoon.
Janet Langat from Kapseret constituency said if it was true that Senator Prof Kamar will replace Prof. Kindiki, then it was ok.
She said Prof. Kamar is up to the task and the position will be an honor to the women and Uasin Gishu residents.
“We need gender balance in our Senate leadership. Her leadership track record speaks for itself,” said Mrs Lang’at.
The sentiments echoed by Soy Sub-county resident, Clement Kipyego who hailed Senator Prof. Kamar for being at the forefront in advocacy and oversight role in Uasin Gishu county.
“It is because of our Senator’s unquestioned leadership that we have Ziwa hospital activities streamlined and now working well after it stalled,” said Kipyego.
He also urged the Uasin Gishu leadership to remain united to foster development in the county.
Jubilee senators have been communicated to support the motion to oust Prof Kindiki.
According to Mr. Kang’ata, 48 senators are to support the motion.
The Senate leaders who are allied to Deputy President William Ruto were removed from leadership last week and replaced with others.
Those who were axed are Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkome who was Senate Majority leader and was replaced by Samuel Phoghisio.
Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika was ripped off Majority Whip and replaced by Irungu Kang’ata, Senator Murang’a County.
